Microsoft to discontinue Windows Mail and Calendar app, users will soon be redirected to new Outlook

Microsoft has started to alert users of the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows 10 and Windows 11 about the automatic migration from the old apps to the new Outlook app.

The integrated applications, which were first made available in 2015, make it simple to check your email and view upcoming events on your calendar. Microsoft asked people to try the new Outlook app while still including the outdated programmes in the Windows 11 bundle.

The message is only available to premium customers right now, but it will soon appear in Outlook's free edition. By turning on the "Try the new Outlook" toggle found in the top right corner of the Windows Mail client, Windows users can try switching to the new version of Outlook.

The new Outlook can import your Mail app preferences and offers both Microsoft 365 subscribers and free users a fully featured web experience.

Microsoft acknowledged that the migration process has begun in a document that is presently only accessible to Microsoft 365 business users. Additionally, Microsoft stated that starting in 2019, all Windows 11 devices would come pre-installed with the new Outlook for Windows, however users can continue to use Windows Mail and Calendar by downloading them from the Microsoft Store until the end of 2024.
