Redmi Watch 3 Active review: A fine example for watch software design
I’ve barely taken off the Redmi Watch 3 Active since I got it. Here’s why.
Smartwatches have advanced significantly. Nowadays, a smartwatch over Rs 2,000 is virtually ever a mistake. But certain companies continue to excel at it. Redmi is one of them, and I've been wearing their Watch 3 Active for a week now. I also adore it. It's so incredibly simple to use, has so many capabilities, and a user-friendly UI that you question if you actually need a full-featured smartwatch. Here is my evaluation.
Plan and fit
Start by talking about the design. The sturdy metal frame of the Redmi Watch 3 Active feels strong and upscale. It has a display that protrudes somewhat from the frame rather than fitting flat, giving it a more upscale appearance. The watch is available in two hues, black and off-white, but if you're feeling daring, you can add some colour with an olive green strap for Rs 499 (about a sixth of the watch's price). I received the black model to review, and I enjoy how simple and streamlined it is.
Although I enjoyed the style, the fit could have been more comfortable. When wearing the watch, you must tuck the strap in rather than pull it out due to its unusual strap mechanism. Because of my thin wrists, this proved to be problematic. To understand what I mean, look at the image below. Maybe people with thicker wrists won't experience this issue. However, this drawback is somewhat offset by how simple it is to remove the watch.
When I attempted to switch the black strap for the olive one, the strap saga, unfortunately, continued. I had to struggle really hard to complete it. But the end effect was worthwhile; the watch appeared to be a completely new gadget. I just have to find something to wear that goes with the green now.
Computers And Displays
Utilising the Redmi Watch 3 Active is a pleasure thanks to its lovely user interface. Because of the 60Hz refresh rate, the scrolling is buttery smooth, the touch is incredibly responsive, and the software has the feel of an actual operating system. It has a control centre, an app list, and quick access shortcuts to many different features.
The 1.83′′ display, which is clear and vibrant, has an impact on how appealing the watch faces are as well. Although the 240280 resolution is respectable for a screen this size, the lack of an AMOLED makes it difficult to see outside in direct sunshine. Other than that, it works fine in most circumstances. The symmetry is also slightly ruined by a slight chin at the bottom, but for the price, this is acceptable.
Overall, the watch's interface is extremely reminiscent to MIUI, so if you have a Xiaomi phone to use with it, you'll feel right at home.
Fitness monitoring
When it comes to tracking your health and fitness, the watch doesn't scrimp on functionality. It automatically tracks your heart rate and accurately tracks your sleep. Even your brief sleeps are detected by it, which is unusual for a product in this class. The watch can endure water pressure up to 5ATM, so the only things missing are GPS and swim tracking.
Despite its strap issues, the Redmi Watch 3 Active is the clear winner in this market. It offers more than you could possibly imagine. Furthermore, even a novice can get the hang of the interface because it is so simple and intuitive. To seal the deal, there is even Bluetooth calling, which functions as you would expect.
