- 1In brief, a Microsoft employee who had been there for two years was let go.
- She admitted that she was fired due to a call.

Recently, there have been a lot of layoffs in the tech industry, and in recent months, some businesses have fired staff as a cost-cutting strategy and response to the current market environment. Thousands of employees were laid off by companies like Microsoft, Twitter, Meta, Google, and Amazon, among others. Since then, LinkedIn has been flooded with posts from those who were impacted.
One such former Microsoft worker recounted her experience of being informed on call that it was her last day of employment and that she was being let go due to "organisational changes and cost reduction" on LinkedIn.
An employee of Microsoft claims she was fired after a call
In April 2021, the woman received a call from #micorsoft with a job offer, but she didn't trust it. She shared her story on LinkedIn. I kept my employment there a secret from anyone. The day began on May 8th, 2023, with an urgent call informing me that I had been let go due to organisational changes and cost reductions brought on by the state of the economy. It was a difficult road, and working at Microsoft was incredibly difficult. In just two and a half years, my career has advanced so quickly for me.
The woman went on to say that she was the team member who was the youngest and had no prior expertise in the position. She was always willing to learn, though.
The woman wrote, "During the journey of my layoff, everyone was saying it's not you, you are more than awesome in what you are doing and it never been you, it's just the company decision and life is not fair; but it still hurt though." The woman talked about how people advised her not to take layoffs personally because it is just the company's decision.
regarding the Microsoft layoffs
In January of this year, Microsoft announced the layoffs of 10,000 employees. CEO Satya Nadella informed staff through email of the layoff at the time and deemed the action necessary. More recently, Microsoft sacked 276 employees based in Washington, USA, a few days ago. According to a GeekWire article, the departments affected by the layoffs include customer service, support, and sales. The story also provided the number of individuals that were let go. 66 of the sacked workers were doing their jobs virtually.
"Organisational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business," a spokesman said in response to questions about the layoffs from CNBC. For our future and the support of our clients and partners, we will continue to give strategic development sectors top priority and financial investment.
