Turmeric, the "Golden Spice of India," is important in Indian cuisine. Turmeric has been essential to Indian food since ancient times, adding strong flavors and smells as well as rich cultural and traditional tapestry. Outside of cooking, turmeric has a long history in Ayurveda, India's traditional medicine system, where it may have health advantages.
The government has established the National Turmeric Board to promote turmeric and its products in the country.
After a Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that India exports Rs 1,600 crore in turmeric, ANI reported.Regarding turmeric. We export turmeric worth Rs 1,600 crore now and target for Rs 8,400 crore. "A National Turmeric Board is needed to achieve this goal," he stated.
BJP state president and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said, "Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, MP, Odisha, Bengal, and Gujarat grow turmeric. The board will enable set up and export processing units. Delays in securing board land hindered tribal university establishment.
India wants $1B in turmeric exports by 2030.
India produces, consumes, and exports the most turmeric, 62% of the global market. India hopes to export $1 billion (Rs 7000 crore) of turmeric by 2030 with the help of the National Turmeric Board.
The newly constituted National Turmeric Board will promote turmeric growth and development. As global interest in turmeric's health benefits grows, it will work with government organizations and the Spices Board. The board seeks to increase turmeric knowledge and consumption worldwide, explore new foreign markets, support creative product research, and empower turmeric growers via skill development. The board wants to improve producers' lives and keep India a leading turmeric exporter by assuring quality, safety, and value addition.
