Telangana battered by heavy rain, schools, colleges closed
The Telangana government declared holidays for all educational institutions in the state on Friday in view of the heavy rains. The weather office has issued a red alert for the state.
On Friday, July 28, Telangana is expected to have all-day heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, according to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD). In response to the state's ongoing heavy rains, the chief minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, reportedly gave the state's education minister, Sabita Indra Reddy, the order to announce a holiday for all educational institutions on Friday.
KCR, the chief minister, had earlier ordered that schools stay closed through Thursday.
The IMD Hyderabad issued a red alert and predicted extremely heavy rains for Thursday and Friday over several Telangana districts.
Since July 22, the state has been plagued by nonstop, severe rains, and eight people have already died as a result. Low-lying areas have been flooded, and the torrential rain on Thursday has damaged the roadways and agricultural produce. Urban areas have seen an increase in snake sightings entering homes.
The Met Centre reported exceptional heavy rainfall in Telangana at several locations in Hanumakonda, a few locations in Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts, and a few locations in Jangaon, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Karimnagar, and Warangal districts (at 8.30 am on July 27).
Chityal in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, which received 62 cm of rain, received more than Regonda (47) did, according to the report. Rainfall in Parkal, in the Hanumakonda district, totaled 46 cm.
Six individuals who were trapped atop a piece of construction equipment in the flood-affected Nainpaka hamlet of the Jayashankar-Bhupalpally area were rescued by the IAF.
According to a CMO announcement, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao evaluated the rain situation since Thursday morning and informed ministers, public figures, and staff on relief measures to prevent casualties.
10,696 people from 108 villages have been relocated to safer areas of the state, according to Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari.
600 residents of Morampalli village in Bhupalpally district as well as 19 labourers trapped in a sand quarry near Gopalpur in Manthani in Peddapalli district were rescued and relocated, according to an official release.
The district collectors were instructed by the chief secretary to implement extensive relief and rehabilitation efforts in the districts that had been seriously damaged by the heavy rain.
She convened a conference call with the collectors and reviewed the rescue and recovery efforts made in the areas affected by heavy rain and flooding, as well as the preventative measures implemented in accordance with the Chief Minister's instructions.

While the state has been experiencing severe rain for the past several days, the chief secretary commended the collectors for cooperating with the district administration to avert the loss of life and property.
She claimed that in response to requests from the collectors of various districts, preparations are being taken to deploy the NDRF and other rescue and relief teams.
She noted that further teams are expected soon and that requests have been made to send 10 NDRF teams and four extra helicopters.
According to DGP Anjani Kumar, 7,000 persons have already been relocated to secure locations with the assistance of the district administration.
In 85 regions, he claimed, national highways and other roads had been damaged, but repairs had been made.
